LAUREN DARN
This first set of black and white photographs, taken in November 2012, document small moments I shared with my beautiful Nanna. At the time, she was in the early stages of her dementia.
This was a time when she was fighteningly aware of her decline. Everyday occurances had become unfamiliar and unsettling but time spent with family and friends provided reassurance.

This photograph has been transferred on to white card and partially rubbed away with water. In this case the unclear image is
representative of fading memories, yet showing some recognition of a sense of self, as she is the clearest part of the image.

This effect was created by exposing some
areas through ripped tissue paper.

Girlhood. Inspired by the images of the cottingley fairies. Taken in 2012 by Bottesford beck.

Rome.

I call this image 'The Benchman'. It shows a homeless man trying to catch a few winks of sleep on a bench in a beautiful park in Rome.

This manipulation was achieved by bending the photo paper
during exposure in the dark room.
